Origins & Insertions

Origin is the end of the muscle attached to the bone that does not move.
Insertion is the end of the muscle attached to the bone that moves.

Insertions & Origins for all muscles:
 
Flexor carpi radialis

 -Origin: Medial portion of the humerus.

-Insertion: Metacarpals.

 

Flexor carpi ulnaris

-Origin: Medial portion of the humerus & on the ulna.

-Insertion: Lateral metacarpal.

 

Extensor carpi radialis longus

-Origin: Lateral side of the humerus.

-Insertion: Second metacarpal.

 

Extensor carpi radialis brevis

-Origin: Humerus at the lateral epicondyle.

-Insertion: Base of the 3rd metacarpal.

 

Extensor digitorium

-Origin: Lateral side of the humerus.

-Insertion: Back of the fingers.

 

Extensor digiti minimi

-Origin: Lateral side of the humerus.

-Insertion: Base of the 2nd metacarpal.

 

Extensor carpi ulnaris

-Origin: Lateral side of the humerus.

-Insertion: Base of the 2nd metacarpal.

 

Abductor pollicis longus

-Origin: Posterior surfaces of the ulna & radius.

-Insertion: Base of the 1st metacarpal.

               

Extensor pollicis brevis

-Origin: Posterior surfaces of the radius.

-Insertion: base of proximal phalanx of thumb.

 

Extensor pollicus longus

-Origin: Posterior surface of the ulna.

-Insertion: Distal phalanx of the thumb.

 

Extensor indicis proprius

-Origin: Posterior surface of the ulna.

-Insertion: base of middle and distal phalanx of the index finger.

 

Brachioradialis

-Origin: Upper arm.

-Insertion: Radius.

 

Supinator

-Origin: Lateral side of the humerus.

-Insertion: Lateral side of the radius.

 

Anconeus muscle

-Origin: posterior surface of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.

-Insertion: lateral aspect of the olecranon extending to the lateral part of the ulnar body.
